Relationship to standardisation and regulation

EHRP supplies input to standardisation
DKE, CEN/CENELEC, ISO and IEC set standards. Only harmonised standards give a presumption of conformity. EHRP supplies tested interfaces, test means and real case data. EtherCAT (today IEC 61158 and IEC 61784) and OPC UA (IEC 62541) took this route.[1][2]
What applies and what is emerging
| Instrument | Status | What it means for EHRP |
|---|---|---|
| Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 | applies from 20 January 2027[3] | Governs the safety of the end product. Conformity assessment stays with the manufacturer and, where required, the notified body. EHRP changes nothing about this. |
| Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 (Digital Omnibus on AI) | in force since 27 July 2026[4] | Requirements for AI systems in machinery are to be set by delegated acts under the Machinery Regulation, to apply by 2 August 2028 at the latest. EHRP can contribute pooled experience from real cases. |
| ISO 25785-1 (ISO/TC 299) | Committee Draft, comment period closed 8 July 2026[5] | Safety requirements for dynamically stable industrial mobile robots. EHRP refers to it and supplies the component side, rather than setting up a safety architecture of its own alongside it. |
| Component interfaces of humanoid robots | no project in ISO, IEC or CEN/CENELEC known to us | This is where EHRP starts. |
| China's Standards System for Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence (2026 Edition) | presented February 2026[6] | Explicitly covers limbs and components. Shows that interfaces are being set elsewhere now. |
Publication routes
- Results without a safety dimension can be published as a CEN/CENELEC Workshop Agreement (CWA) and so gain a formal European form.
- Safety topics are excluded from CEN/CENELEC Workshops and belong in the standards committees.[7] EHRP feeds them in there, for example through the national mirror committee for ISO 25785-1.
Principles for position papers
- Position papers concern procedures and the transferability of evidence, never the level of protection.
- No statements on the costs of individual companies.
- Whatever the association submits to authorities or standards bodies is published on this page.
Position papers
None so far.
Open legal question
Whether humanoid robots for private homes fall under the Machinery Regulation or, as household appliances, under the Low Voltage and Radio Equipment Directives has not been settled. The benefit of EHRP in that segment depends on it.
